About US

* The SMTA was founded over 75 years ago to represent independent retailers and to unify a standard of service and reliability to the public. Most of our members supply haberdashery, fabrics and other allied products and many of them also provide industrial equipment to garment and allied manufacturers.
* Our members offer a welcome alternative to impersonal internet trading companies; in our members' stores you can be assured of friendly personal attention, expert knowledge and advice supported by a wide range of makes and models of the latest equipment.
* Most of our members offer a 'click & collect' service but unlike multiple High Street retailers, supermarkets and bulk warehouses, our members will often take your old sewing machine in part exchange. Many of our members offer tuition to help you to obtain the full benefits of the equipment you have purchased. All of our members offer a complete repair and after-sales service.
* If you are a sewing machine retailer who supports these objectives why not join our Association.
